Marvel’s new superhero team makes a strong debut as other big titles hit major milestones.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps has kicked off its global box office journey with a powerful $218 million worldwide, including $100 million from international markets. This puts Marvel’s rebooted team back in the spotlight—and just shy of Superman’s global debut of $220 million earlier this July.
Launched in only 52 markets, compared to Superman’s 78, the film found its biggest success in Mexico ($12M), the United Kingdom ($10.8M), France ($5.7M), and Brazil ($5.1M). It underwhelmed in China with just $4.5M, continuing a cold streak for superhero films in that region. For comparison, Superman made $6.6M in its China debut.
Directed by Matt Shakman, the film introduces Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch. The plot follows the team as they confront a cosmic threat that could consume their world. Thanks to strong reviews and positive audience reactions, the film is poised to continue its success in the coming weeks.
This win is a welcome sign for Marvel Studios and Disney. Although last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine hit the $1 billion mark, other 2025 releases like Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts struggled to recover their massive budgets.
Superman, F1, and Jurassic World Dominate the Global Charts
While The Fantastic Four shines in its first week, other heavyweights are already deep into their box office runs. Warner Bros.’ Superman has now surpassed $502 million worldwide, thanks to a strong showing in North America. International sales, however, sit at a softer $213 million.
Meanwhile, Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth continues its rampage, earning $23.5 million over the weekend and bringing its total to $718 million globally. Despite fierce competition, the dino-franchise is holding strong with new stars like Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali leading the charge.
Brad Pitt’s $250 million racing drama F1 also crossed the half-billion mark this weekend, reaching $509 million globally. With $344 million from overseas markets and a steady performance in week five, the film shows no signs of slowing down.
Looking Ahead: Marvel and DC Go Head-to-Head
With superhero franchises battling it out and legacy IPs like F1 and Jurassic World performing well, the global box office is once again revving up for a major summer. All eyes are now on the next few weeks to see if The Fantastic Four can maintain its momentum or if another big release will steal the spotlight.
